A superb Antique Writing Desk by Shapland & Petter of Barnstable dating from c1900.  This is an excellent example of a genuine Victorian Arts & Crafts Writing Desk in flame mahogany, by the renowned firm Shapland & Petter of Barnstaple. This excellent piece exhibits numerous classic Arts & Crafts characteristics including original copper handles and escutcheons and uniquely shaped splats forming the cut out perimeter of the desk.  This desk design is recorded as Item Number 1478 in the original Shapland and Petter Catalogue of Library Writing Tables (Drawings).

FEATURES - 4013 Antique Writing Desk by Shapland & Petter

• Very pretty Antique Writing Desk by Shapland and Petter in flame mahogany and in the Arts and Crafts style. c1900.  In exceptional condition.
• Three drawers across the front elevation with curved section fronts
• Twin pedestals with straight fronted drawers
• Square section legs with detailing ending in copper and brass castors with brown porcelain wheels
• Perimeter of the desk is formed by cut out panels and splats each formed in a heart shaped pattern
• Original copper handles and escutcheons to all the drawers in the Arts and Crafts style
• Original brass lever locks to the drawers, stamped "S&P B"
• Good quality replacement tooled black leather with gilding, inset to the writing surface
