Many desks bought at auction or privately will require restoration before use. Restoration can vary from minor polishing to a full structural renovation with new leather writing surface. However, whatever level of restoration undertaken we belive it is always important to try to retain as much originality as possible, including original fittings and if appropriate any leather writing surface.
While DIY work is certainly possible for those with the necessary skills and enthusiasm large scale restoration work is probably best carried out by a professionally qualified restorer.
